The Town Museum is located in the vicinity of T. G Masaryk Square and the Shingle-maker’s Tower. Its pleasant premises offer visitors the unique experience of viewing two permanent exhibitions: The Tradition of Christmas Decoration Production, and the History of the Town of Dvůr Králové nad Labem and the textile industry in the Dvůr Králové Region. In addition this, the museum organizes many other exhibitions, whose overview you will find in our event calendar. The museum Granary contains a lecture and concert hall with variable seating options, which holds lectures, concerts, training and presentations.

The Tradition of Christmas Decoration Production exhibition

Do you want to experience Christmas in the summer? Then you should not miss a visit to the Town Museum, with its permanent Christmas decoration production exhibition. After all, the production of blown glass Christmas decorations has a long tradition in the Dvůr Králové region; it began in the year 1931 and still continues. During this time, thousand of decorations of various shapes, sizes and designs were created, and they decorate Christmas trees around the world. In the first part of the exhibition, which is devoted to pearl-making and the decoration production itself, you will discover how production in the region developed from the year 1931, and you will look through the entire cycle, from suggestion of patterns and colours for individual collections and the blowing and wetting of decorations, through their embellishment and clasping, to packing them in boxes. You will experience it all in a playful form; the interactive exhibition will entertain both adults and children. The second part of the exhibition represents a “sample room” of products from the 1930s to the present day.

Exhibition of the History of the Town of Dvůr Králové nad Labem and the Textile Industry in the Dvůr Králové region.

Set off on the trail of the history of Dvůr Králové nad Labem, and familiarize yourself not only with the most significant events of times long forgotten, but also with the history of the textile industry tradition in the Dvůr Králové region. You will see an engraving workshop, get to know the technological procedures of textile printing, and find out about the history of textile factories. The last room of the new exhibition bears the title “As Time Goes By” and is devoted to the town’s history in the 20th century. Newspaper articles and films will guide you through ground-breaking events in the history of Dvůr Králové.

Textile printing exhibit in the Secondary technical school and Secondary vocation school

A new exhibit is open for visitors, since November 2019, dedicated to textile printing of region Dvůr Králové, located inside the historical building of Secondary technical school and Secondary vocation school at Nábřeží Jiřího Wolkera 132.
Exhibits will present the visitors with the methods, types, and options of textile printing. Thanks to original machines, complemented by several pattern books, fabrics, or blueprint workshop, you will be able to peek into the craft of not just printers, but designers, carvers, and pattern artists as well.

For our visitors we have prepared a small printing workshop, where they will be able to decorate a fabric to their own liking, using the handmade printer templates. For School groups we have available guided tours, fill in worksheets adjusted for different age groups or an option to try out the textile print.

Textile machinery and other objects installed in the exhibit are brought mostly from the now defunct Museum of Textile in Česká Skalice. Exhibits found here represent a unique collection of textile manufacture and textile print in Czech Republic and the world as well. Among other exhibits, we have displayed almost 150 years old perrotine, still functional block-printing machine that weights several tons.
The collections were being formed initially thanks to the “Textile and countryside exhibit”, taking place in Dvůr Králové nad Labem in 1936. Between 1949 and 1953, the exhibit was proprietary of city Dvůr Králové nad Labem and next it was cared for by UPM until 1962. From 1963 until 2007 it was in the custody of textile manufacturer TIBA. Museum of textile in Dvůr Králové nad Labem had in the past century available, also for city museum collections, a section of the Mayer factory, later part of the Neumann villa located in today Safari park. Following the renovation of the villa in the 60s, the city museum collection found a new home in one of the buildings in Kohoutův Dvůr. Although suitable location has not been initially found for the Textile museum collection, they were later moved to a section of former monastery in Česká Skalice, where an extensive exhibit was made available to the public in May of 1990. Since January 2008, this location has become a subsidiary of UPM as Museum of Textile. After the closing of the Museum of Textile which took place in 2018, part of the collection has been relocated back to Dvůr Králové and Labem, which has a long history of textile manufacture for which it was in the past known as the “Czech Manchester”.
