In the years 1626-1628, Jan Amos Comenius found refuge in the village, when he hid in the former castle together with other persecuted Bohemian Brethren while fleeing from his homeland. In the years 1855-1866, the castle was demolished. Today, its garden contains a monument to J. A. Comenius by Ladislav Zívr, as well as a memorial with an exhibition of his life and work. Visitors can find various documents, photographs and maps from this period here. Of interest is the historical model of the former castle.
In the village you can visit the Roman Catholic Church of St. Jacob, founded at the end of the 16th century and renovated in the year 1680 at the expense of John Ernest, Count of Schaffgotsche. It was built in a Romanesque style, and its dominant feature is its massive square tower. Above the entrance there is a stone plaque with the emblem of John Ernest an the year 1691. Of interest is the baptismal font from the 18th century, and the figural gravestone from the year 1578. Near the church there is an old rectory building in the Empire style.
About 1.5 km south of the village, there is a cave in the hillside called Skrýše [Hideout]. J. A. Comenius allegedly hid in this cave.
The Royal Forest Dam is situated in the Elbe valley, four kilometres north-east.
