The Battle of Dvůr Králové nad Labem educational trail
The educational trail, which was established in the year 2007 by the Committee for the Preservation of Monuments from the War of 1866, informs visitors about the town of Dvůr Králové nad Labem, which witnessed street battles between the Austrian troops and the Prussians.
The trail starts in Choustníkovo Hradiště at the Church of St. Cross and ends in Hoříněves, where it connects to the "Josefov – Smiřice – Chlum” educational trail. The total length of the route is 29 km. Along it you will find 16 stops, and two diversions. Eighteen information notices describe the events of the Battle of Dvůr Králové nad Labem, the artillery battle at Kuks on the 30th of June 1866, and the advance of the Prussian army under Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm. In some place you will find out more about distant battlefields in Germany. You will also familiarize yourself in more detail with the lives and suffering of the civilian population after the Battle of Dvůr Králové nad Labem, and about the fates of injured Austrian soldiers who were hospitalized in the infirmaries which were established in the town. As many of them succumbed to their injuries, they were buried in Dvůr Králové nad Labem and its surroundings, and these places are commemorated with stone monuments.
