21st century Way of the Cross in Kuks
A set of fifteen sandstone statues bears the name “A Tale of Man’s Suffering and Hopes”. It was consecrated on the 4th of October 2008, on the feast of St. Francis of Assisi It is intended as a modern rendition of Count František Antonín Špork’s 300 year-old idea, which at the time was not realized due to the Count’s disputes with the Žireč Jesuits.
The project was initiated by sculptor Vladimír Preclík, who created the sculpture titled Cathedral of Prayer. Unfortunately he did not live to see the completion of the project, in which eminent Czech sculptors with close links to eastern Bohemia participated.
