Cycle routes for families with children
From the square we set off down Palackého Street, past the church, to Jan Palach Bridge, and from here along the road on the left to Žireč along cycle route no. 24 (2). From here we continue until the turn-off for the village of Stanovice, where we cycle down to the Elbe. If we turn left after the bridge, we can find refreshments in Šporkův Mlýn [Špork’s Mill]. Otherwise we continue right along the river flow; from here it’s only one kilometre to Kuks along the red tourist trail. After the last house there’s a path into the forest on the left, whch brings us to a local quarry which is used as a natural gallery for sculptural works by students of the Industrial Secondary School of Stonework and Sculpture in Hořice.
From Kuks, after a tour of the Hospital, Czech Pharmaceutical Museum and Rentz Museum of Baroque Print, we return along the same route to Stanovice. We cross a bridge, then at the crossroads we go straight, along the dirt road to the viaduct, and we reach a meadow where the 21st century Way of the Cross is, titled “A Tale of Man’s Suffering and Hopes”.
