There are bicycle stands located all around the town, so cyclists can discover Dvůr Králové nad Labem not just from “the saddle”, but also on foot. In the Dvůr Králové Zoo, cyclists also have the opportunity to put away their bicycles and enjoy a walk among animals from all of Africa. The Town Information Centre in Dvůr Králové nad Labem is also prepared for cyclo-tourists. In addition to the promotional materials which the “IC” offers, storage space for bikes, tools for simple repairs and a first-aid kit are also available to cyclists here.
What’s more, Dvůr Králové is the region through which the Elbe trail passes; at the moment it ends at Kuks, close to Dvůr Králové nad Labem, which you can easily reach on connecting cycle route no. 2. In the future, the Elbe trail should continue from Kuks through Žireč directly to Dvůr Králové nad Labem, and then through the zoo and all the way to the Royal Forest Dam.
Dvůr Králové nad Labem is also one of the stops for the Krkonoše cyclo-buses, which operate until the 28th of September. You can get on at the bus station, at the zoo, in Bílá Třemešná or at the Royal Forest Dam. The cyclo-buses will take you all the way to Vrchlabí, where you can transfer and thus continue to Špindlerův Mlýn. As well as getting to know Dvůr Králové nad Labem and its surroundings from the saddle of your bike, you can also cycle through the Krkonoše mountains. You can find more information in timetables.
You should definitely not forget to set off against the flow of the river Elbe, to look at what is probably the most beautiful dam in the Czech Republic and the National Heritage Monument, Royal Forest. It’s surrounded by picturesque forests, and represents a pleasant place for both relaxation and learning. From here, it’s just a short distance to the highest local peak, Zvičina. You will see the Krkonoše mountains as if they were in the palm of your hand, and watching the sunset will be a real ending to a pleasantly spent day.
You can also go in the opposite direction, where your goal will be Kuks hospital. Along the way, make a stop in Žireč, where you can park your bikes without any worries in the courtyard of St. Joseph’s House without any worries and take a walk around the entire compound, which is freely accessible to everyone. Next, stop in Braun’s Bethlehem, a magical place which offers a view of statues carved directly into the rocks. Continue on the route leading along the 21st century Way of the Cross. Once you’ve feasted on the view of the surroundings and the gallery of statues, stop in Šporkův Mlýn [Špork’s Mill] for a light refreshments, after which the ingenious Kuks Hospital Baroque complex awaits.
